Thousands of dead fish appeared this Saturday morning on the beach of Villananitos de Lo Pagán, in San Pedro del Pinatar, as well as in the area of La Mota and La Puntica. A circumstance that, according to the Emergency Coordination Center, forced to raise the red flag and prohibit bathing on those beaches .
Civil protection personnel, environmental agents and members of the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Environment, along with its owner, Antonio Luengo, who described the event as “another consequence of the DANA” were displaced.
Some of the fish may have been dead for several days and are not suitable for consumption. Health warned that they should not be introduced into the food chain, as they could contain polluting substances and transmit diseases.
Apparently, the fish began to surface towards the surface still alive due to lack of oxygen in the Mar Menor, but ended up dying on the shore of the aforementioned Murcia beaches. This same week, Luengo acknowledged that in some areas of the lagoon the oxygen level is very low .
