The Cartagena City Council has installed video cameras to monitor the state of the Mar Menor, taking advantage of the free Wi-Fi infrastructure located on the beaches of Los Urrutias, Los Nietos and Playa Honda.
The signal has been made available to the municipal security and infrastructure services, so that they can carry out a real-time control of the state of the beaches, information that will be especially useful in the case of DANA.
“The cameras have been placed on the posts erected by the City Council in Los Urrutias, Los Nietos and Playa Honda to place the Wi-Fi antennas and take advantage of the same infrastructure to send the images live via the internet ”, as explained by the deputy mayor and head of the municipal commission of the Mar Menor, Noelia Arroyo .
The City Council installed these infrastructures last August, as a pilot project of the European Wifi4Eu program. The antennas, located specifically in the social premises of Los Urrutias, at the height of the Los Nietos yacht club and on the Playa Honda promenade, offer a free internet connection with a speed of 30 megabytes and with coverage in a radius of 200 meters.
