The Local Police of Cartagena will carry out, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Traffic, a campaign to monitor and control the seatbelts and child restraint systems. The checks will be made in different parts of Cartagena, especially in neighborhoods and councils, from Monday, March 12, until Friday, March 18.
This preventive campaign aims to raise awareness that wearing a seatbelt saves lives , and that it is a basic element of road safety. The Local Police report that wearing the safety belt halves the risk of death in the event of an accident.
Not using it poses a great risk to road safety since in a frontal impact the wearing of the seatbelt decreases the injury by more than 60%.
The use of approved restraint systems, seatbelts and child restraint systems (SRI) has been demonstrated as the simplest, most cost-effective and effective road safety system on all types of routes and journeys.
Not wearing the seatbelt is, along with speed and driving under the influence of alcohol, one of the main risk factors on the road.
